well, since some people just want to know how the mayans predicted the 9/11 etc, i'll fill them up.
but first, do remember, even if the mayans did not predict the 911 or world wars, they predicted apocalypse 2012 and scientists, astrologists all confirms their prediction in one way or another.
first, a background on the mayans.
They've built pyramids. Some of the pyramids have been known to be Mayan Calenders and have 365 steps. The Pyramids are postioned as exact so that the Maya were able to know precisly when the Winter Equinox would start and when it would end known as the Spring Equinox through the shadow of the pyramids, therefore marking the longest/shortest day in the year

The Mayan year was more accurate and unique. Their calender consisted of a 260-day religious calender, twenty 30-day months with a separate 5 days at the end. The precise calenders were based upon careful observation of the planets, sun, and moon.
They have also predicted when the moon will rise and set and when it will be full moon. Scientists have known the precise moon rise and set throughout the modern day.

finally, their prediction on the 9/11 bombings.
their prediction : Great Birds will come from the sky and end a great city to the north at 9/11/01.
what happened : 2 airplanes struck the twin towers of NewYork (great city in the north of america).
as i said, whether this came true or not in the first place is not really the main focus.
The Mayans were extremely intelligent. Their culture stems from thousands of years of people in south america. In 900ad their civilization stopped suddenly, we are unsure of why. The Aztecs were the ones who came into contact with Cortez. The groups of people around the Aztecs, who were being tortured and killed by them, led the Aztecs to their death withthe help of the Spaniards. I believe that the Mayans did know what was happening to their culture. It was becoming too large, too materialistic, similar to the Western world we see today. So they stopped it by going back into the regular world they were used to before, living in the wild. If you see Apocalypto, which I think was a wonderful, yet somewhat inaccurate film, it really shows that the mayans were just living in the forest in the shadow of the Aztec and they caused the whole Spanish integration.
